The morning started off slowly as we are trying to shake off jet lag. We headed out walking on Nanjing Road toward The Bund (the major avenue along the river). Nanjing is a major street that runs east and west through the center of Shanghai. We are staying on West Nanjing Road in what is primarily the business district. As West Nanjing changes to East Nanjing it transforms into a shopping mecca. It was drizzling and cool today and after walking from our hotel to tomorrow square - we found ourselves challenged in finding a restaurant. (We hesitated at one restaurant and a kind business man informed us that is was a Japanese restaurant!!) The names in our travel book are in pinyan - and the signs on the street are Chinese characters. We haven't figured out how we can address this yet but were a bit nervous at this point to just jump in. We totally wimpedout and ducked into the Marriott at Tomorrow Square. The restaurants are on the 38th and 39th floor so we had a reviving lunch with a birds eye view of the city - quite a bonus for being wimps!!

After lunch the boys were laden with their dollars transformed to yuan and anxious to see what they could buy. I was on the hunt for two jackets for them. We found two enormous department stores and enjoyed visiting them both. David, who absolutely HATES shopping fared fairly well - until we could not find our way out. The department stores are 6-7 floors, very packed with people and clothes - with escalators placed in no logical location. So far, I must admit that I have not seen the "deals" here in China. We did find jackets and they were fairly inexpensive - but they aren't top top quality either. And of course, they have half price sales too!! The toys were absolutely the same prices as we find them at home, much to the boys disappointment. We will keep looking.
About 3 pm we started to fade - well everyone but Skylar. Back to the hotel for what was intended to be a quick nap. ooops. We did the unforgiveable in jet lag managment - we woke up at 8 pm ...and went back to sleep. It is now 1 pm - and the boys are working on their school work, I am obviously blogging. Very stupid. We are trying to figure how to turn this around.
